Enhancing Clinical Environments with Community-Focused Art at the Florida Department of Health
Healthcare is first and foremost about ensuring the well-being of all people and communities. Because this well-being is heavily influenced by the physical environments we inhabit daily, art in these spaces must serve a deeper purpose. Art is not just decoration—it is a bridge, helping connect people and place. When the Florida Department of Health sought to humanize its clinical environment, our team designed and executed eight custom walls across their facility. These pieces serve as intentional visual anchors that lower cognitive stress, ground the space in local identity, and promote long-term community positivity.
When working in the healthcare sphere, we create site-specific, hand-painted art that improves the patient and visitor experience by transforming sterile clinical environments into warm, welcoming spaces. This can simultaneously lower anxiety and build community trust. Through this process, art becomes a strategic asset that promotes psychological comfort and reinforces an institution’s commitment to inclusive care.

Located in the heart of the Springfield community, the Florida Department of Health serves all residents of the Springfield and Bay County areas, specifically prioritizing low-income and vulnerable populations by providing accessible healthcare. Our goal was to design place-based murals that resonate deeply and reflect the local values of the neighborhood and the people being served. These eight walls do not simply fill blank space; they create real moments of valuable connection.
Executing large-scale visual projects within public spaces and healthcare systems requires a highly professional operational framework. Having partnered with major healthcare institutions—including HCA hospitals and UF Health facilities across North Florida—our team is deeply experienced in balancing creative vision with corporate and governmental standards. When working with entities of this scale, our process emphasizes proactive project management, compliance and safety, and streamlined onboarding. We respect safety protocols and operational boundaries, our communication is direct and organized, and we ensure all administrative safeguards are handled seamlessly.
Whether you are managing a regional healthcare facility, a civic space, or a commercial development, integrated art is a proven business asset that strengthens identity, drives engagement, and builds deep community trust. At Heartspace, we aim to combine structured project management with visionary artistic execution to bring this idea to reality and enliven everyday spaces in the community.
